Gary Brown and Martha Brown live at The Carolina Opry

Gary, who was born in Walnut Cove, North Carolina, attributes his choice of music as a career to his parents’ love of music, particularly bluegrass. He began traveling at age fifteen with the band Boot Hill from Winston- Salem. After high school, Gary moved to Knoxville, where he attended the University of Tennessee and met his wife Martha. They married in 1980 and worked in bands together, traveling throughout the ’80s. In 1989 Gary and Martha became original members of Calvin Gilmore’s Dixie Jubilee in North Myrtle Beach. In his spare time Gary is an avid tennis player.

I really like biographies and (Tennis Legend) Andre Agassi’s autobiography “OPEN” is a fascinating look at his life.

My wife, Martha, suggested I read Ashley Judd’s autobiography “ALL THAT IS BITTER & SWEET”.  Another fascinating look inside a dysfunctional family and its effects on children and their journey into adulthood.

Since “BREAKING BAD” ended, Martha and I have been watching the drama “PARENTHOOD” on Thursday nights.

My Dad, for getting me started, Bluegrass musicians RICKY SKAGGS and TONY RICE, and singers GEORGE JONES and JAMES TAYLOR.

What is your favorite pro sports team?

Although I am a fanatical sports fan, growing up in the piedmont of North Carolina, I never really fell in love with any pro teams. However, as the other guys at The Carolina Opry will attest, I am a diehard University of North Carolina TARHEEL basketball fan (and a University of Tennessee VOLUNTEERS football fan).

Do you have any pets?

Martha and I have 4 MINIATURE SCHNAUZERS; Lucy, Ethel, Bob & Walter.
